Why Should You Work With A Dietitian ?

If you are looking for an actual medical provider to help guide you to finding lifestyle and nutritional methods that help you or your child a fulfilling life, decreasing or lessening many avoidable medical complications, or taking your athletic performance to new heights, you are in a great spot. See below some of the common types of individuals I see.

Prenatal Nutrition & Nutrition for new Moms

When you find out you are pregnant, through the ever changing journey of pregnancy, having a nutrition guide can help answer a lot of the questions about how to best set you and your future family up for success. This can help you manage nausea, appetite, what and how much to be eating, nutrition to aid breast feeding, and a healthy return to the new healthy mom body fit for chasing around their toddler.

You are not alone. Childhood obesity effects close to 20% of the US population. Obesity-related conditions include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, breathing problems such as asthma and sleep apnea, and joint problems like Blount’s disease. I work with the entire family together to find solutions for each family. Working with childhood obesity while they are children can be the difference of healthy decades of their lives.

When your child has trouble growing it can be incredibly stressful. Sometimes that catch-up growth just seems out of reach an impossible. We can work together to come up with strategies and solutions to helping your little one get the most out of their fueling.

YOUTH ATHLETE Nutrition fueling

My initial start into nutrition was as a youth athlete. My goal with working with your child is to help them reach their potential in a way that encourages them to put their health and happiness first, while loving to excel in the sports and activities they do. Sessions are kept shorter and more affordable to match the nature of youth counseling. It is beneficial for care-takers to be present in most cases to best support their child.

Poor Relationship with Foods & Eating Disorders

Whether your child is struggling an eating disorder, or you are just noticing signs that your child is not feeling comfortable in their body and their nutrition is suffering because of it, I am here to help. I am glad to work on a team to help your child with you and other clinical support, as well as work through fear foods and triggers that may be effecting your child.

Polycystic Overian Syndrome (PCOS)

Having PCOS can often leave one feeling hopeless and discouraged. Often PCOS is associated with weight gain, glucose intolerance, excessive unwanted hair growth & loss, infertility, and difficult food cravings. There are many lifestyle and nutritional changes that can be much easier to make when looking towards action goals and steps. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.

Postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS)

Getting a diagnosis with POTS is often a long process. It can be very different of how it effects each person. There are nutritional and fueling challenges, but many symptoms can be managed a little better with some lifestyle and diet modifications. I have worked with individuals helping some of the dizziness, fatigue, and nausea subside as well as decrease the number of fainting spells.

Texture Complexes & Eating Behaviors

Being a parent of a child with texture complexes and difficult eating behaviors can be incredibly frustrating when it comes to every day events like meal times. I have worked with many children and parents to help entice improved eating habits and behaviors with great success. I would love to help your day to day run smoother with less push back from your picky eater.

Insurance Coverage

I take Medicaid of SC and NC, Aetna, United, and Humana insurance. I take Blue Cross of North Carolina as well. Blue Cross of South Carolina currently does not cover Nutrition visits from any Dietitian.

I do offer discounts to those who self-pay if insurance does not cover your visit. Often these visits can also be used under HSA accounts and Superbills can be provided.

Even if you pay out of pocket, I know nutritional counseling will be worth your value with resources to help your food dollar stretch further than you think it could, decreased medical costs from unnecessary medications and doctors appointments, well being, and increased potential for athletic scholarships.
